Mikko Laakkonen

Mikko Laakkonen is a Finnish designer whose work is grounded in a deep understanding of furniture and material craft. He studied furniture design at Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences before completing his Master's degree at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. After several years working across design and architecture practices, he founded Studio Mikko Laakkonen in 2004. His studio has since earned consistent international recognition, including the Red Dot Best of the Best award (2013), the Chicago Athenaeum's Good Design Award (2010 and 2015), the Muuuz International Award (2014), and the Finnish Furniture Designer of the Year (2014). His approach — precise, material-led, and quietly innovative — translates naturally into his collaboration with NUDE.
