Unique Tastes, Best Glasses

Straight or on The Rocks?  Once upon a time when you ordered whisky, this was what the bartender would have asked you. Requirements like soda or water or a cocktail such as “whisky sour” had to be addressed separately. Today, ordering whisky is not that simple anymore. If you prefer a “straight”, you can opt for balloon or tulip shaped glasses as well as the classic tumbler.Ice? That also has varieties today. Some like a glass full of ice cubes with whisky on top, some like only one giant cube in the glass. As the big cube melts slowly, you can sip your whisky without too much dilution. In some upscale Japanese bars, there are even ice sculptors who check your hobbies and chisel your ice tailor made for you. Are you a football fan? Your ice cube takes the form of a ball. If you do not want any dilution in your drink, then whisky stones or metal cubes from the fridge come in to the picture. When Bernard Shaw, renown author said “Whisky is the liquid version of sun light”, he was also confessing he was quite a lucky man when he quoted this sentence at the beginning of the 20th century. This was when most of the whiskies were kept in dark glass or ceramic bottles and were sipped directly from the bottle, flask or metal or earthenware cups. To drink whisky enjoying its glowing reddish hues akin to that of the sunlight was a privilege of the minority who could afford rare and costly glassware.Delightfully, what Scottish people very accurately called “uisge beatha” (water of life), now generously presents its amber color coming from the oak casks it has rested in the bosoms of, for many years. It is now on all shelves in glass or high quality crystal bottles. And the glasses…Whisky lovers once washing their hands with whisky and smelling their hands to rate the quality of it are replaced by modern connoisseurs sipping whisky from their design glasses. This international spirit, produced not only in Scotland anymore but all over the world; in Japan and India, Taiwan and Australia has opened up to variety also in presentation and drinking habits. On the other hand, the wide range of options in glass types is mind blowing. Here is the collection of award winning whisky glasses from Nude; the worldwide known design brand of Şişecam: “Chill”, product of Nude Design Team, with its marble base kept in fridge and balloon formed design glass top mounted on it while whisky is served. This unique design honored with Reddot Design Award, enables you to sip your whisky cold without having to add even one drop of water or ice. “Alba”, a Joe Doucet design, meaning Scotland in Celtic, is a tribute to its homeland Scotland both due to its name and also the motifs of tartan at the bottom of the glass. “Malt”, the design of Finnish designer Mikko Laakkonen on the other hand, is a masterpiece of minimalism. The glass resembling a miniature vase is very conveniently hold thanks to its very narrow base. It is not without reason that these three unique glasses, all handmade from crystalline glass, have taken their place in the selection of “7 Best Whisky Glasses of the World” by The Independent. These glasses are among the best glasses of the world due to their form, function and reflection of taste and with the elegant edition of a whisky carafe, they become a perfect gift option. NUDE Whisky glass collection surely does not consist only of these award winning pieces. Collections as Arch, Camp, Club, Club Ice, Finesse, Highlands, Islands, No.9, Shade and Wayne offer great variety of choice. To sum up, great surprises await whisky lovers browsing the NUDE's Whisky & Spirits category. Introducing "Silhouette" by Space Copenhagen

“This is our first collection with Nude and we were impressed by the deep dedication to the craft of glass-making they have. Called Silhouette, the pieces reflect the name in many forms; they are glass, transparent and reflective. The name derives from a constant passion of ours to have a consistency of things to have a sculptural, aesthetic appeal.” Danes Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou are graduates of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The pair launched Space Copenhagen, their design firm in 2005 where they work across disciplines, producing furniture, lighting and objects for interiors for residential and hospitality projects. The couple often use natural materials, and a subdued color palette that highlights craft. Space Copenhagen’s clients range from international manufacturers including Georg Jensen, GUBI, Stellar Works, and Fredericia Furniture. Restaurant and hotel projects include 11 Howard, New York; the original Noma launched by René Redzepi in Copenhagen; Geranium, Copenhagen owned by Bócuse d’Or winner Rasmus Kofoed; and Geist, run by Michelin star chef Bo Bech. "When we started sketching, our inspiration was purely the material itself’’ Melissa Feldman: Have you worked with glass before? Space Copenhagen: It is our first time working with glass, and the complexity of the craft techniques behind it is deeply fascinating to us. M.F.: What was it like working with the Nude team? S.C.: Our collaboration with the wonderfully skilled craftsmen at Nude has been truly inspiring. Whether fused, cast or blown, the sheer immediacy of the process, the intensity of coaxing molten glass into these exquisite precise forms is quite unique and unlike anything we have experience with. M.F.: What’s your approach when combining form and function? What other types of foods are you imagining would work in these vessels? S.C.: Every case is different. Here, we were interested in how to effortlessly convey a welcoming, generous gesture in the form. The small family of individual bowls can be used in different ways but are all connected by their open, inviting and generous shape. Our intention was to create a very flexible collection. Whether filled with nuts or with a couple of berries, in a group, or on their own, we wanted them to communicate an inviting gesture in an understated but clear way. M.F.: How do you think about incorporating decorative objects like these on to your table setting? S.C.: The sentiment of sharing bowls and trays for a table setting is appealing to us, and we like the simple sculptural ornamental character that glass pieces like these introduce to a space.   M.F.: What was your original inspiration for the Silhouette Collection and how did you begin your design process when creating the collection for Nude? S.C.: When we started sketching, our inspiration was purely the material itself. In the process, its fluid and transparent nature quickly became almost a fourth dimension with a constant interplay between edge, volume and curve, and techniques that are unique to glass determining outcome in ways that were new to us, which was a great learning. M.F.: What other types of accessories are you interested in designing that might relate to the collection you’ve just created? S.C.: We see so many amazing possibilities, whether glass, vases or larger free form objects, which could be really interesting to explore. M.F.: Do you like cooking? If so what in specific? Fish perhaps? S.C.: For both of us cooking is a wonderfully relaxing, social and sometimes almost meditative endeavour, something that takes you out of a busy professional life and into a sphere where it’s about this ritual and experience. We love the Mediterranean and Asian way of sharing a meal, passing the bowl or plate along, a lot of choice, many dishes on the table, that whole interaction around the table. M.F.: Do you have a favorite restaurant besides the ones you've designed? And why? S.C.: We work with restaurants for a living, and seek out food experiences all the time, both in Copenhagen and when traveling. So, to us culinary experiences are so intrinsically tied to the place you’re at, the mood, you’re in, the people you’re with, so singling out a favorite wouldn’t be fair. It could be amazing dumplings in a side street on Lower East Side, fine dining in Copenhagen, or fresh fish in a modest family restaurant in Milan.

Summer Cocktails - The Grilled Pineapple Mojito

The NUDE Grilled Pineapple Mojito Inspired by the tropical summerfruit pineapple, Spoonabilities, a duo from Miami creating beautiful recipes and cocktails, made for NUDE a summer cocktail called The Grilled Pineapple Mojito. The heroes of this cocktail are the pineapple and a Barcelo Especial extra dry rum from the Dominican Republic, presented beautifully in NUDE's Big Top longdrink glass.  Instructions for the pineapple syrup Grill the pineapple rings 3-5 minutes per side, until you get a good char In a small saucepan at medium low heat, add water and brown sugar. Stir until all sugar is dissolved. In a bowl, muddle 4-5 grilled pineapple rings and add rings and juice to saucepan. Cook for about two minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Then strain the syrup. Store simple syrup in the refrigerator for a week. Grilled Pineapple Mojito Directions Muddle the lime juice, 2-3 grilled pineapple chunks and mint in the NUDE's Big Top Longdrink glass. Add ice cubes. Pour in pineapple syrup, rum, and top with club soda. Garnish with pineapple leaf/spike to give it that tropical feeling.   To elevate this summer cocktail, garnish it with pineapple chunks. For the grilled pineapple chunks, remove the skin and top from a ripe pineapple and cut into 1/3-inch slices. Grill until caramelized. Cut into chunks and carefully add it to the cocktail. If you like your cocktail to have an even more fruitier flavour, you can juice the grilled pineapple and add around 2 oz. of juice to the cocktail. For this rich cocktail, we suggest to use the Big Top longdrink glass of 11.5 oz. as it will be the perfect size to carry all those flavours. Grilled Pineapple Syrup: 4-5 Grilled pineapple rings 1/2 cup of water 1/2 cup of lightbrown sugar Cocktail: 3/4 oz. Grilled pineapple syrup 1-2 Mint leaves 3-4 Grilled pineapple chunks 1/2 oz. Summer Cocktails - THE NUDE SUMMER

NUDE Summer by The Cocktail Blog  Inspired by beautiful summer lighting and NUDE's Big Top Collection glassware, Morten Krag, mixologist, reviewer and creator of TheCocktail Blog, created specially for us a summer cocktail, The NUDE Summer. For the base of this cocktail Morten choose Duppys Share, a Carribean rum. The Dubby Share is a perfectly balanced blend of premium rums from Jamaica and Barbados. The fiery Jamaican rum with tropical notes and the Barbadian rum with a warm buttery note finish make the perfect partner for punch and rum cocktails.   The rum is paired with equal parts of Giffard's Pamplemousse Rose liqueur and Elderflower liqueur before topping it off with champagne. When you prefer something different than champagne, a Vermouth & Tonic mixer does the tric as well.   To finish off the cocktail, garnish it with some fresh or dehydrated lime and some fresh mint leaves. To give it something extra, you can add some thinly sliced fresh or dried citrus to give that summery feeling. With the linear pattern of Big Top's glasses, the light catches the colors of the cocktail beautifully and the balanced bottom of the glass offer a great hold during summer parties.  Method: Build directly in the glass 3.5 cl of rum (Duppys Share) 1.5 cl of Pamplemousee Rose Liqueur (Giffard) 1.5 cl of Wilde Elderflower Liqueur (Giffard) Top with champagne or a Vermout&Tonic mixer Garnish with fresh or dehydrated lime and mint leaves Enjoy!   Creator: Morten Krag Instagram  thecocktail.blog

Stem Zero Ion Shielding Technology

Some look tough but are so fragile. Some look fragile but tougher than any other… The mechanical properties of glass, that is to say the characteristics that determine its behaviour under stress, are strictly related to the amount, depth, and the distribution of any surface flaws that may exist. They are the most important features of glass and can determine its overall use. Any micro-cracks cause the glass to present what we call ‘poor mechanical behaviour’. That’s to say, they cause the glass to crack. Studies on the mechanical strengthening of glass show that suppressing such micro cracks can be achieved by introducing compressive stress on glass surface. This limits the generation and propagation of cracks. Using this knowledge, handmade Stem Zero collection is strengthened by employing a special ‘surface modification technology’, based on an ion-exchange process. Larger ions are incorporated to the glass’ surface structure, replacing the smaller ions which cause strains, thus increasing the strength of the glass by forming ‘a compressive stress’.    Proven by Strength Tests Bowl Impact Test 35% stronger Test is performed according to the standards below: DIN 52295 / Testing of glass – Pendulum impact test EN 12980:2000 / Materials and articles in contact with foodstuffs.
